My name is John Turner. I'm a Deaf author and speaker, originally from Roxbury, Boston, and now based in Baltimore, Maryland. For many years, I kept my story to myself. Not because I wanted to hide it, but because some experiences are difficult to put into words. I wasn't sure people would understand what I had lived through or what had been guiding me since I was a child. Growing up wasn't easy. I was surrounded by gangs, violence, and situations that could have changed the course of my life forever. Yet, time after time, I received warnings telling me to move before danger came. I couldn't explain it then, but those warnings helped me avoid danger. Looking back, I know that God's power was leading and protecting me. Being Deaf has shaped my journey in so many ways, but it has never defined what I'm capable of achieving. My experiences have taught me resilience, strengthened my faith, and given me a story worth sharing. That's why I wrote When the Warning Comes, I Move. I wanted to tell the truth about my life—the challenges I faced, God's power that carried me, and the hope I found along the way. Above all, I want people to know that no matter where they've come from or what they're facing, their story is far from over. Today, I'm grateful to share that message with audiences across the United States through speaking engagements at churches, schools, conferences, community organizations, and Deaf events. Every opportunity to speak is a chance to encourage others to keep moving forward with God's power, courage, and purpose.
